Over the last couple of months The Young Irish Film Makers were busy with their annual film making summer camps. Young people from all over the country flocked to the summer camps in Kilkenny to learn about different aspects of film making, meet new friends and have a lot of fun. The budding young film makers were guided through various aspects of film making, from scriptwriting right down to the editing process. Creativity in the arts is still alive and well in Ireland as this year saw a record number of kids attend the summer camps. Each year Young Irish Film Makers report an increasing standard in the films that are produced at the camps. Summer camp 2011 was no exception, with some hilarious and extremely technical films being produced.

This year also saw young Shane Ryan, who is only seven years of age, join the summer camps to make the trailer for his movie “Galaxy Wars”. Shane wrote a letter to Hector on 2fm expressing his wishes to make his film and his love for film in general. Hector decided to help the young budding film maker out by setting him up with the team at Young Irish Film Makers. Shane spent the two days drafting a script for his trailer, choosing locations, actors and Props. Some of the young people who were at the summer camp helped him out with the shooting, doing things like camera work and sound while Shane made is vision come true and directed his trailer.
