Our Easter Workshops at the National Film School at IADT are a great chance to meet with some industry professionals who can give you the inside scoop on what it is like to be a film maker in Ireland.
Over the years we have had some really big names and it’s looking like a busy schedule again this year, please see below for details of the programme:
Stephen Colfer (Actor, Writer, producer)
Stephen is an actor, writer and producer based in Dublin. He’s a founder of Dreamgun, a film and theatre production company with over 250,000 views on YouTube. He regularly writes and appears in Dreamgun’s Film Reads, a comedy night attended by over 600 people every month.
Stephen produced, wrote and starred in Mimes in Time which had a sold out run at Tiger Dublin Fringe 2016 and was nominated for the Bewley’s Little Gem Award. He appeared in and co-wrote Chaos Theory, which The Sun called “the funniest show at Edinburgh Fringe“
Notable appearances include Deadly for The Abbey Theatre, The Beggar’s Opera for The Epstein Theatre, Personal Space at Smock Alley Theatre. Couples Counselling for The Mess Around and The Hellfire Squad and Trainspotting for Devious Theatre. Stephen is a drama graduate of DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama and Columbia College Chicago.
Richard has a Masters Degree from the University of Staffordshire in the UK for Digital Feature Film Production. He has produced numerous short films with an array of talented young directors. Richard has produced music videos for artists such as Sinead O’ Connor, Hometown, Keith Hanley and the Beach.
Having both line produced and produced in his brief time working in the film industry, Richard at the end of 2014 set up Five Knight Films. Five Knight Films being a production company that strives to bring together the best in creative talent in front of and behind the camera. His company have received funding from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, the Irish Film Board, Sony Music, Filmbase, Film Offaly and TV3 since then.
Through Five Knight Films, Richard is now gearing towards solely producing feature films. The company has a slate of feature films currently in different stages of development that he is working on.
Musician, filmmaker and copywriter Nick Kelly has worn many hats over the years. He played alongside Iggy Pop and Blur at the Reading Festival in 1991, with The Fat Lady Sings. He’s the man behind several iconic Guinness adverts, including Michael Fassbender’s 2005 jaunt to New York via the Atlantic Ocean.
Nick’s first feature film The Drummer And The Keeper was filmed in various locations around Dublin over February / March 2016, produced by Kate McColgan for Calico Pictures and funded by the Irish Film Board under its Catalyst Scheme.
The Drummer And The Keeper had its Irish premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh in July 2017 where it won Best Irish First Feature.
Having been acquired for distribution in Ireland and the UK by Element distribution / StudioCanal, it had its Irish theatrical release in September 2017. In October 2017, The Drummer And The Keeper had its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival.
In 2016, Nick received development funding from the Irish Film Board for a new feature film project “Incognita”, again working Calico Pictures.
Luke is an ex National Youth Film School student who has gone on to work with Sony Imageworks in Los Angeles, Brown Bag Film and Boulder Media here in Ireland. He works as a Technical Director in the animation industry. His speciality is making sense of very complex systems in order to get things through the animation pipeline. We are looking forward to a really interesting look into how the Animation Process works from the inside out!
