The National Youth Film and Animation School is the ideal pre-college course for any creative young person aged 16-19yrs thinking of a career or college placement in film or animation.

The 10 day residential camp takes place in Kilkenny every August. We are looking forward to another great summer of filmmaking and animation in 2024!

At the camp young people will learn about filmmaking and animation through interactive training workshops, masterclasses from big names in film & animation and hands-on experience making films and animations. At the end of the course each student will have produced a high-quality piece of work for their showreel or college portfolio.

The film course is an intensive program where students take a short film from script to screen in only 10 days. Starting with workshops led by industry professionals in all areas of filmmaking from camera & lighting setups to directing and running a set. The students then take their scripts from pre-production to shooting to post production.

The animation course gives aspiring young animators a chance to learn new skills and techniques, meet like minded young people and get the experience of working in an animation studio as they produce their own animated shorts. The course covers traditional hand drawn animation techniques and pixelation. Students also learn the ins and outs of character design, backgrounds, layouts and how to shoot and edit their animations.
